–The Labiaplasty Network–
– 1971, Early stages
The procedure started appearing in medical articles, although at the time, labiaplasty was only performed to correct abnormalities and defects. Labia size or shape was hardly ever a topic of discussion.
– 1984, Fashion forward
Labiaplasty started appearing in medical journals as a cosmetic procedure. It was certainly not a popular surgery until the blossoming of the Interent and the booming porn industry. By 1996 the appearance of female genitalia and especially large labia had both men and women talking.
The Brazilian wax and laser hair removal, “the hairless trend” also played a major role in the popularity of labia reduction.
– 2015 , Labiaplasty booming!
The number of cases has doubled in the US just one year, over 6000 labiaplasty procedures were performed in 2014. Gynecologists, urogynecologists and plastic surgeons are estimating the trend to keep growing. More and more women are requesting the surgery for both cosmetic reasons and to alleviate discomfort.
Choose your labiaplasty doctor carefully, advanced training and experience are a must…
